My kids have been back to school for nearly a month now. With the start of the school year, it’s inevitable that someone in the family comes home with a cold. Usually it’s my husband, whom I’m convinced gets it from a coworker who brings it to work from one of his five school-aged kids. Then there’s the four girls next door, one who’s already come down with a high grade fever. (I made sure Lucie didn’t go over there to play until the little girl was well enough to go back to school.)
That’s why I’m already reminding the kids to wash their hands frequently and why I’ll be making an appointment early this year for flu shots. Another thing I’m doing is looking into probiotics for my kids. Why, you ask?
I’m sure you’ve heard that you should take probiotics if you have tummy issues. I’ve been taking probiotics for years since I feel they help with tummy pain due to my food sensitivities. You’ve also probably heard that you should take probiotics after a taking antibiotics since it restores the “good bugs” in the gut. My neurologist told me to do just that after my brain surgery. Since I had to take more antibiotics after my incision got infected (yuck – sorry!), I just started up another round.
But did you know that 70% of your immune system is in your digestive tract? And a healthy and balanced digestive system plays a vital role in supporting your health and well-being? That’s why I decided to try out Culturelle Kids Chewables with a little help from my 10-year-old daughter, Lucie.
Culturelle Kids Chewables supports children’s digestive health, which in turn supports their immunity and natural defenses. This is especially important during back to school time. In addition, I like that they’re 100% sugar, dairy and gluten free, making them easy to take for kids with food allergies and sensitivities. Culturelle Kids contain 2.5 billion active cultures, help reduce occasional digestive upset, and help boost digestion and overall digestive health. I especially trust Culturelle Kids Chewables since it received the Good Housekeeping Seal! (Read about the Good Housekeeping Seal here.)
Lucie found the flavor to be just OK, but didn’t mind taking the chewables. She said they made her tummy feel good. While I thought that was a bit of a placebo effect, unlike a lot of vitamins or supplements I’ve tried to give her, she didn’t resist taking them. She also took them without being reminded, since I’m not around when she’s getting ready for school in the morning. (That’s her dad’s job these days.) I also like that Culturelle Kids Chewables are shelf stable and don’t have to be refrigerated, so are easily taken on trips or even in the car on the way to school.
