I have a dear blog friend, Shannon, who is fighting ovarian cancer along with a myriad of other health issues. I’ve already donated money to the American Cancer Society by purchasing a luminaria in her name at my community’s Relay for Life event. (I also bought ones for my mom, who was diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and our friend Mike who also has neck and head cancer.)
So when I saw that Kelly Ripa and Electrolux are teaming up raise money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) this summer, I was all over it. Read my post Create a virtual lemonade stand at Electrolux.com and raise money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund to learn more.

ACS is a worthwhile charity. However, only 20% of ACS’s budget goes to research. If you or your readers would like to support cancer research and make sure the money — all of it — goes to actual researchers, they might look at the National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in their areas. The ACS research dollars are granted to these scientists. By giving directly, you bypass administration costs, etc. You can find a list of NCI-CCCs at cancercenters.cancer.gov.
