The iateapie.net “What’s in your fridge?” contest

Tanya at iateapie.net is having a contest and giving away a Magic Bullet Blender and some Sundesa Blender Bottles. What do you need to do? Just post a picture of what’s in your refrigerator, and write a description of the contents, especially the healthy foods and food products in it.

Then you need to email Tanya at tptphd@gmail.com and send her the link of your blog post. Or if you upload pictures to Flickr and use their notes feature, email her that link also. (You can learn about the contest here. You have until November 25, 2007 to enter.)

My picture

Top shelf

On the top shelf (from left to right) there’s a sugar free Rockstar energy drink, two bowls of tomatoes that are left over from our garden, some no fat plain yogurt, then homemade tomato sauce on top of a container of pineapple (a bowl of my son, Nathan’s, leftover spaghetti and noodles is in front of that). On top of the organic, free range eggs are leftover homemade pizza with wheat crust.

Middle shelf

The middle shelf has low fat Silk soy milk (that’ mine – I’m trying not to drink milk these days). To the right of that is organic veggie broth, A1 sauce (for our venison steak) and "sprinkle cheese" (what we call Parmesan cheese in a can) and of course, ketchup. In front of the Canada Dry seltzer, is more homemade tomato sauce made from tomatoes in our garden. On top of that is a container of homemade pesto that we used on the pizza on the top shelf.

To the left of those containers is the organic turkey that is defrosting for Thanksgiving. To the left of that is some homemade ratatouille. (Oh, yes that’s wine chilling in the bottle holder. It’s a white wine we brought back from Switzerland.) Behind the Capri Sun juice box (if you have kids you have juice boxes) is grape jelly for Nathan’s PB&J sandwiches. Behind that is mango pineapple salsa.

Bottom shelf

In the meat drawer is ham, cream cheese, and shredded mozzarella for pizza making. Next to that is where we keep the bread. (My mom always kept bread in the refrigerator because we had weevils in our house. I do the same because that’s what I’m used to.) There are corn tortillas for when my mother-in-law comes over. She can’t eat gluten and loves quesadillas. Then there’s Nathan’s evil white wheat bread from Sara Lee. He refuses to eat sandwiches on my multi-grain bread, which can be seen (purple wrapper) behind the corn tortillas.

Veggie drawers

Mixed baby greens in the right drawer and apples, carrots and Italian parsley in the left.

The door

Organic butter and Horizon organic low fat yogurt on top. A big jug of Treetop organic apple juice next to a drawer full of Treetop apple sauce (for Nathan’s lunch box), and an assortment of condiments – olives, lots of mustards, bbq sauce and salad dressing. The milk from our local dairy (hormone free – 1%) is behind the apple juice. It comes in reusable glass containers.

A confession

100_2811I’m glad Tanya didn’t ask me to take a picture of the freezer. You see it contained a birthday cake – a Ratatouille ice cream cake from Dairy Queen – that I ordered for my birthday. Also, a few days later, the refrigerator was full of cheese and ham for Thanksgiving.

Some days I don’t act as healthy as my refrigerator looks.
