I've been on EFS for a week and lost 9 lbs by day 6. I didnt always adhere to the breakfast menu either b/c usually im not hungry in the a.m.
I would eat just the fruit or just the oatmeal. Later in the day I eat an extra snack or whatever part of breakfast I skipped, but I wouldn't recommend it especially to Betas like myself. To make up for it I work out an extra hour to 1hr 30 mins of whats required & I dont drink the coffee/soda/alcohol(sometimes the meat) that is allowed in order to enjoy extra the snack (which is usually a protein bar its b/c solid, takes longer to chew and its protein!). Many blessings to everyone trying to get in shape!!!!

I bought the EFSD and am a little confused on the ability to substitute foods within the days. For example for breakfast I cannot just eat a piece of fruit and a yogurt. I am a runner and I never feel full if I eat only that, so instead I switch that out and eat a cup of Kashi cereal with 1/2c of milk instead. Both of these things are allowed in the first cycle, but will I still lose the weight?? What do you think? Other than breakfast I am ok, and if my breakfast is more calories than the assigned one (which it usually is) I just don't have the snacks for the day and instead eat the "Free snacks". Let me know what you think!! Glad the diet is working for you!

Wow, I would have guessed that the EFSD was more restrictive than the FSD--but you get more food earlier on than we do ;)

Hey Anne-Marie - I was interested to read about the plan you're following at present, sounds like it's pretty well balanced. Best wishes for that!

Many thanks for the link as well!! :-)

I haven't really exercised since I was in college. The workout I'm doing now is pretty intense, but I'm hanging in there. What I've noticed though is that I'm already beginning to tighten up. After 10 days! I'm amazed. I think exercise is a real key to permanent weight loss.

I didn't know much about this diet, so I found it very interesting. I'm intrigued by all the diets coming out which incorporate the low-glycemic way of eating in some form. Of course, I'm totally sold on South Beach after losing 42 pounds and keeping it off for nearly three years (with a few small lapses and returning to phase one occasionally for a tune-up). But for anyone who doesn't want to follow a strict diet, I think most people would lose weight if they just eliminated some of highest-glycemic foods like white sugar, white flour and potatoes to start with. Like the previous commenter, I'm surprised your diet allows alcohol on the intial phase. South Beach doesn't allow wine until phase two.

The longer I've eaten the low-glycemic way the more I realize I don't really feel deprived; there are so many good foods that I eat all the time. And I am completely convinced that one of the biggest tips for dieting is to pick a diet that works with your own food preferences. I was never much of a sweets eater, so this way of eating is great for me.

Congratulations on your commitment to exercising. I'm just coming out of a kind of exercising slump where I didn't exercise as much as I usually do for a few months, and it feels great to be getting back to it.
