Honey We’re Killing the Kids!

Killingthekids_1

I was contacted by Nicole Woodard, a casting producer for the BBC and TLC’s new show, Honey We’re Killing the Kids! I caught a bit of the show the other night. I really liked how respectful it was towards the family. So often these types of shows make parents look like idiots just for the sake of entertainment. It would have been very easy for the show to put them down, and portray them as stupid people, i.e., "lazy, fat slobs." Instead, it showed the mom and dad to be stuck in an unhealthy lifestyle, but caring and concerned about themselves and their children.

The idea behind is to curb childhood obesity in the United States. Their experts create a customized health program for each family that appears in the show. They also educate families on good nutrition and exercise practices as well as parenting techniques to address issues such as establishing a bedtime routine and limiting screen time, which affect health and wellness in children.

They’re looking for personable families with at least two children preferably ages 4-12. Do your kids eat too much junk food, don’t exercise enough, or spend too much time watching TV and playing video games? This may be your chance for 15 minutes of fame and a way to get fit, too! Families can live anywhere in the United States, they just need to want to change their unhealthy lifestyles.

Sound like your family? Go to TLC’s website and apply online.

I like what you said about the way the show portrays parents. It made me feel at ease. I am in the process of making a video tape for the show. I spoke with Nicole as well and she is waiting for something from me. I need to pop it in the mail tomorrow. The only thing that surprised me coming from a woman like you is referring to two parents who may not be as healthy as you or many others as ” fat slobs”. Do you think this is necessary?
