The Denver Post food/dining section for 12/8/04

Chef Genuine and I were just discussing via email how much we love The Denver Post‘s Wednesday food section. Today’s issue was a thought provoking as usual.

Brulee08First, regarding the discussion of the BonJour Crème Brûlée Torch and two crème brûlée recipes. Save yourself the big bucks and buy a small butane plumber’s torch from your local hardware store. I wonder about the safety of specialty cooking torches after dear friend, Michelle D. told me that one blew up on her and started a small fire. I have an small torch that Big Bad Dad bought at Home Depot, like this one by Bernz-O-Matic. It’s trustworthy, was cheap, and works great.

Then two fabulous recipes for latkes, one a lower-fat alternative and the other for apple-potato latkes. Yum!

Finally, an article about buying Colorado-made food gifts. Shame on writer Kristen Browing-Blas for not mentioning award winning Colorado wines, Celestial Seasonings, Hammonds Candies, and Allegro Coffee – all quality, Colorado-made products. We locals tend to forget that these wonderful, nationally-sold products are produced here.

Check out this week’s issue in full. Or better yet, sign up to get food and dining news emailed to you.
