Welcome to This Mama Cooks!

After becoming a member of BlogExplosion, I realized while there are tons of political blogs, parent blogs (like mine, A Mama's Rant), techy blogs, and personal diaries on the Internet, there are very few food blogs on this site.

So to fill a perceived need, I created This Mama Cooks! Recipes, kitchen tips, restaurant discussions, cooking magazine and book reviews, and product critiques from a Mama who loves to cook. I hope to post favorite tips and recipes and reminisce about the important part food has played in my life. I also hope to review books, magazines, TV shows, local restaurants, and cooking gadgets as I encounter them. Basically, I want to talk about my hobby, cooking and cake decorating, in a diary-like format, practice my food writing, and have a little fun.

I hope you enjoy this blog (have patience while I get it set up and tweaked). Please email me with your favorite recipes either by you or from a book or magazine (please give the appropriate credit), cooking tricks, or food-centered memories. If I like them, I'll post them with a link back to your blog or website.

As Saint Julia would say, "Bon appetit!"

Wow. What a nifty idea for a blog. I don’t get cable TV so no Food channel :-(

This is better, though, because I feel like I “know” you, sorta.

This is a great idea. I can’t wait to send you some recipes. I have taken cooking classes around the world (my favorites being in Thailand), and all the teachers have said the same thing “All recipes have already been done. Any recipe can become a from scratch original by changing 3 ingredients”. I always give credit where credit is due, but I hardly ever follow a recipe exactly unless I am baking. What about you? Sean calls me the MacGyver of the kitchen!
